I had one of these for 3 years, and do still, I just don’t know where it is. After a few months with another model, which curiously was a little more expensive, I am ordering another of this model. I have to cut rather large grainy pills which tend to crumble rather than cut. This cutter works even on those.
Pros:
1. My favorite feature on this cuter is that contains the split pill so if there are crumbs they are in the cutter not on the floor.
2. I also love the catch well that allows you to split multiple pills before you have to empty it. I can usually do about 8-10 pills with a medium size pill. i hate cutting pills and this helps me a lot.
3. The blade seems sharper than other models.
4. The blade is protected more than most so the potential for getting cut is reduced.
5. Safer overall design in regard to getting cut or catching your finger on the edge of the plastic when you close it.
Cons, or should I say FYI.
1. It can sometimes be difficult to situate pill. The v into which you place the pill is somewhat flexible but not quite enough. If it were sightly more flexible the pill would set better. I always try to push on it a bit to seat it but this is not ideal.
2. The cut takes a little pressure. I got used to this pretty quickly but my dog still thinks it is a snapping turtle.
3.. You must wash the cutter faithfully. There is a plastic fellow that slides up and down when you cut. After a while of cutting pills the dust from the pills gets stuck in the groove where the plastic sheet passes. Cleaning it stops uneven pressure due to a rough gliding mechanism. It is not hard to wash, I just wash mine in a small bowl of soapy water. I usually wash this cutter monthly. Because it is enclosed, it takes longer to dry so make sure you cut some pills and then wash it.
I have never found my dream cutter but until I stumble onto the mythically perfect one, I am very happy with this model.

I bought this pill cutter to cut 90 pills into fourths. Before I reachef the 20th pill, I had already encountered every problem that people complained about in these reviews.
* The pill cutter stops opening completely, and if you want to open it fully, you have to push the little flexible plastic shield on the bottom up toward the device. However, even if you don’t fix it, it doesn’t make it any harder to cut pills or less accurate.
* The pill cutter cuts unevenly, but only if you don’t position the pill correctly (in orientation, or you don’t push it securely into the triangle holder), or you’re not using it on a hard flat surface. In other words, this is user error.
* The blade does dull very quickly, but that doesn’t affect its effectiveness or accuracy.
* This pill cutter can crush your pills, but only if you’re not using it on a hard flat surface.
The only problem that I found that was slightly annoying, was that the cutter left pill dust all over the table underneath it, but it was a minor inconvenience.
In each case, the pill cutter still did its job, and was significantly easier than cutting the pills with a knife.
All you have to do is place it on a hard, flat surface, and make sure that you push the pill into the top of the triangle until it fits snugly. If you care about the pills being even, then make sure that you line it up evenly. And have a wet washcloth or something to clean up the pill dust afterwards.
That’s it. It’s not perfect, but it’s easy, and it works. 🙂

My mom recently started a medication that needed to be halved (half in the morning and half in the evening). The first few days I tried using a knife to half the tablet (pre-scored round tablet), but it would often break into 4-5 pieces.
This product helps us cut the small (metoprolol, beta blocker) pills without crushing them. It is difficult to line the razor up to the pre-scored line, but the guide definitely helps. The small pills are not exactly in half, but they are much closer (probably between 40/60 to 50/50 splits) than I was able to do otherwise. I was able to split one of my dad’s Losartan pills (larger) accurately. The space in the front of the product allows me to prepare/store a couple of my mom’s halved pills for the next few days. The pills are pretty fragile and this stops them from bouncing around and breaking in a larger bottle.
Honestly, having to split pills is not the greatest thing, but sometimes dosages require patients to split pills. I don’t think any of the pill splitters out there are perfect. This product is probably as close as you can get to a product to split them accurately/evenly, and its affordable enough that you can have two (one for my mom’s pill and one for my dad’s) and not have to clean up between them.
