UPDATE: I have taken a star off of my original review. While this Neti Pot is still my favorite in terms of how it works, I am now onto my third one in less than two years, as the first two cracked beyond repair when I accidentally dropped them.
Kimmy Schmidt may be unbreakable, but this Neti Pot is not.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I get chronic sinus infections, usually as after-effects of colds and/or allergies, and I’ve had many people recommend sinus rinsing as a way to help stave them off. However, the habit never lasted because I first tried it with a bulb syringe, which always resulted in my nose stinging like a mother as I choked on the water gushing down my throat. Ick! But after my latest, miserable sinus infection I finally decided to try a Neti Pot, hoping that it would be a little easier to handle. What a difference!
First off, this thing is VERY gentle. I just tilt my head to the side and the water flows softly from one nostril to the other with no dripping down my throat (a process I find much less traumatic than shooting water into my nose at what felt like 100 mph!). The sensation of the Neti Pot did feel a little odd at first (it reminded me of when I was a kid and I’d get water up my nose swimming), but as long as you make sure to breathe through your mouth, it’s pretty painless.
Second, the pre-mixed packets save me having to concoct my own rinse. I did have to boil some water the first few times since I did not have any distilled on hand, but after that I switched to microwaving distilled water for about 30 seconds to heat it up and adding a packet, which works perfectly. Again, the process is very easy.
So why only four stars? Well, though the Pot design works well when you’re actually using it, the plastic the Pot is made of is not the greatest material. I microwave it for short periods (30 seconds max at a time), but any longer than that and I think the plastic would get funky. Considering a minute or more is what its takes to disinfect it, that’s kind of inconvenient and means a lot of washing and drying. Also, this thing is by no means “unbreakable” — klutz that I am, I’ve dropped it more than once, and both the handle and the spout have begun to crack. They have not actually started leaking yet, but it’s only a matter of time before I need to buy a new pot.
Still, overall the Neti Pot has made my life much less sniffly. That is ultimately why I bought it (and it’ll be worth it to me to buy a new one if needed), and I would definitely recommend trying it, hands-down!
***UPDATE*** I have now been using my Neti Pot daily for over a year, and since then I have not had another cold or sinus infection. My spring and fall allergies were also incredibly lessened, and I’ve even generally been sleeping much better due to my nasal passages being clear at night. This thing is wonderful!

it works. it feels a little weird, but if you are all stuffed up for days, what are you gonna do?
Just be sure you use STERILE water in it.

Really nice and gentle to use much better than the squirt bottle. It is plastic so would be nice if they could make a bamboo one.

It feels weird dumping water up your nose, but this thing sure does clear the boogers out.
OLivia Manor –
Easy to use and saline packets are very handy.

I like the design, it seems to be the best one I’ve tried

UPDATE:
FABULOUS!
Just took a while go get used to it (it is very strange if you have never poured water into your nose)
CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IT!
IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES – GET IT! (ANY KIND OR BRAND – IT DOES WONDERS)
DURING BAD ALLERGY TIMES (I USE IT BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP AND AGAIN WHEN I WAKE UP …. IT HAS PROVIDED SO MUCH RELIEF.
(I LIKE THE PLASTIC OVER CERAMIC JUST BECAUSE I AM CLUMSY, IT GETS WET, YOU ARE IN THE BATHROOM WITH YOUR HEAD BENT OVER THE SINK … TOO PRONE TO ACCIDENTS (FOR ME) IF NOT PLASTIC.
P.S. I SAW ON MARTA STEWART SHOW A DOCTOR RECOMMENDING THE HERBAL REMEDY CALLED “STINGING NETTLE”. IT REALLY SEEMS TO HELP A LOT WITH MY ALLERGIES (IN ADDITION TO ZYRTEC AND EYE DROPS … I LIKE BAUSCH & LOMB “ALAWAY” … so for best OTC eye drops for allergies I’ve found. The active ingredient is actually the same as the recently launched Zyrtec Eye Drops … but you get twice as much for half the price of the Zyrtec).
Allergies suck! But there is a lot to help out there. A netti pot is a must!
There is nothing wrong with the product and I actually like the little packets of salt rather than guesstimating daily. I find using a full packet is way way to much salt for me.
Anyway – the whole thing is quite a mess (just a wet mess, not gross or anything) as my severely deviated septum and larger than average (broken in college) nose create an unavoidable dripping down/sideways/even kinda up …. with a saline solution that make me want to completely wash my face after each use.
Disappointed personally to not have received but benefit from the whole nasal irrigation (not the products fault) but it seems a good idea to try.
FINALLY – I couldn’t help but realize (as I waited for mine to arrive) that a single serving Hotel-Style coffee/tea pot with a spout similar to the one on the box cover would do the exact same job as well … if not perhaps even better. The plastic is very thin and flimsy, but it is ok. It just seems a more durable and sold mini tea pot would be easier and less heavy …. AND PROBABLY A LOT LESS EXPENSIVE (that was not a gripe about the price of this product. It was fine and very competitive … I’ve just seen little pots for like $2-3 at IKEA or Import Store.

I have this and a ceramic one without a lid. The lid on this needs to be screwed on just right or it drips when tipping. But it’s water up your nose anyways- so it’s a messy endeavor as it is. Not sure how it holds up to traveling without cracking or breaking when stuffed in luggage- it’s plastic. Wrap it up in a sweatshirt or something.
I hand wash with soap during a sickness and then run it through dishwasher afterwards ( just on top rack without heat cycle)— it has held up nicely.
Nose rinsing pots really help fight off colds and allergies. I highly recommend owning one!
