Looked all around for a “healthier” sunscreen for my family’s skin. This is rated pretty well on the EWG site that rates toxicities in products. A 10 being the worst it is given a 1-2 which makes me happy. It goes on thick so you need to rub it in well but that’s the only dislike and I will take it over putting lots of toxins on my kids. The sunscreen works really well. It doesn’t drip off into the eyes when swimming which is what happened to some of the other sunscreens like Alba. It’s a small tube but goes a long way. Works on my fair-skin as well so we are all around a well protected family this summer.

This will make you look like a reflective ghost however, it works super well! I used it on my face because I have adult acne and definitely don’t need anything else aggravating it. This did not make my skin worse, so that’s good. My husband has rosacea and this did not aggravate his skin, either. It is a bit greasy and a little goes a long way. When you sweat on your face, it will make little white beads of sweat so watch out for that. We went to Turks and Caicos and when we used this we did not get burned at all! However, there was a day when I didn’t use it (because I didn’t want to look reflective white) and used a different sunscreen. That left me looking a bit like a lobster. Oh well.

I use this as a daily sunscreen on my (adult) face. This is not an “elegant” sunscreen – you have to rub it in to avoid looking white. Once it’s on, it leaves a very healthy shine.
My face is prone to eczema. In the past few months, I have tried Andalou Naturals, MyChelle, Badger, Neutrogena Baby, and probably a few others that I have forgotten. I started looking into what ingredients may be causing all this irritation, discovering that some people are sensitive to titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. To test this out (very unscientifically), I bought this suncreen (with only titanium dioxide) and Badger (with only zinc oxide). My face becomes itchy within a few minutes of applying the Badger sunscreen, even though I can tolerate it on other parts of my body. The California Baby Sunscreen has been fantastic! I needed to a sunscreen for my baby that doesn’t contain any zinc whatsoever! This was it for my little one. No irritation whatsoever. It goes on white and after a few mins you can’t even tell it was white on her skin!

I got this for the ears of my white cat (it is impossible to find a product specifically for cats) who likes his sunshine.
I like that it doesn’t contain any salycilates or other chemicals that are toxic to cats when absorbed through the skin.
I was concerned that it does contain titanium dioxide, which is unhealthy for cats to ingest, but we use it sparingly and he doesn’t protest too much when I apply it. Once it’s there he pretty much leaves it alone.
Later, when I check again it’s still there (a little dried up and dirty, but still there) so I’m not too concerned about him ingesting it.
I’m happy with the product and feel better that his ears are protected.
