I really love the ingredients in this sunscreen because they are more clean than others. However, this specific stick does not spread very easily on baby skin.

This is a mineral sunscreen which is safer than a chemical sunscreen. A chemical sunscreen is absorbed into the skin, into the bloodstream. A chemical sunscreen sits on your skin, protecting it safely. It does leave a very thin white sheen, but that is how it works!!
I love this brand, I wish they did more advertising bc I never heard of it until my ob told me about it in general conversation and its that good. It’s a little pricey but so worth it. Babies are more susceptible to chemicals than we are.. Get the good stuff now when it really matters

My daughter contacted me on Sunday and asked that I order three different sunscreen products from a drug vendor. I tried and they didn’t have two of them. I got on amazon and ordered them. Amazon uses the lowest price algorithm to select the vendors, I guess. Anyway, three different vendors were selected and I used expedite shipping (a few business days). The cost of each item was about the shipping and handling on them. One came in on Wednesday, one on Thursday, and one on Friday at 3 PM. I was pulling out the drive to meet my daughter’s family at the beach and we decided to check the mailbox again. The products are great! One vender was excellent! One okay! One lousy when looking at due date performance! I would have really been upset if it had come after we left for the beach vacation.

Pros: This teaches kids to apply sunblock on their own and makes it easy to do. No bad chemicals.
Cons: The formula is super-viscous and is very thick and pasty. I would take thick and pasty over greasy, but it’s hard to rub in since it’s not very “moist.” II find this is best for faces, but prefer to use more of a “lotion” for the rest of the body.
Efficacy: It works–we can see tan lines where our 3 year old does/doesn’t apply it!

This is the only sunblock my daughter will wear I think because of the ease of application. It goes on easy, is fun to put on and I feel good about using a mineral based sunblock on my 3 year old. Well worth the money.

We purchased both super-sensitive and the normal version of the California Baby stick. We originally got the normal version as a gift, then I ordered the super-sensitive version, figuring it would be better. I also ordered the normal type in the same order just in case, and I’m glad I did. The normal one is great, you rub it on the skin, and just the right amount rubs off. The super-sensitive one is practically useless– I can swab ten times on the same part of the skin, and still not get good coverage.
Background that we are sensitive to perfumes in products. We use fragrance-free laundry detergent, hand soaps, dish detergent, etc. We are not outright allergic, but strong smells bother us greatly. For us, the smell the normal version was small enough that it did not bother us in the least. Better yet, it actually gets on the skin, so it’s actually useful as an every-day sunscreen, or on problem areas (top of cheeks, top of shoulders, or healing scrapes/cuts, etc.). We stopped using the sensitive version. Both sticks use a sunblock titanium dioxide, but I wish they would make a version with the exact same physical formulation, just with the fragrance omitted. That said the smell is extremely minimal, and I know your mileage may vary, but we almost always stick to fragrance-free products, and are deeply skeptical of products that other people describe as only “mildly scented.” The normal version (not super-sensitive) is the best stick formulation of titanium dioxide we have found; other ones are too greasy and too scented.

Like this sunscreen very much. We have been Blue Lizard fans almost since our kids were born, and were very happy except for the lack of a sunscreen stick for the face. My daughter’s friends at school apply their own face sunscreen using various stick products, and she wanted to do the same.
This product makes application easy. My daughter stands in front of the mirror and spreads it on herself (she’s 5). It is opaque enough that she knows where she has applied it (and missed), and it seems to cover well.
Only downsides? Breaks off in little chunks if you press to hard (she’s learning) and it’s much more opaque than Blue Lizard. For some reason, CA Baby’s formula doesn’t blend as well, although ingredients wise both CA Baby and Blue Lizard (baby and sensitive) aren’t supposed to absorb into the skin. No big deal That said, I’m not delusional – I know that staying out of the sun and wearing sun clothing is a safer way to go, but if you have to sunscreen, this seems one of the best of the alternatives. I’ll keep reading and researching to find something better 🙂

For those who are more concerned about a white glow, go to wal*A$t and get some cheap sunscreen. It’s supposed to block harmful rays and while you think the person will not tan, I can tell you that my son has one. But he never has burned. And to be honest, you need to rub the sunscreen on, not leave it there in a pasty white mess. Try the year-round version. It seems to be a little more fluid and easier in application.
California Baby has provided my son excellent protection for all two years since he was going on walks in carriers since he was two months old. The sunblock stick is a little hard to use, at first, but Logan likes to put it on himself and then I put more on and add the Everyday/Year-round sunscreen. Additionally, the seller was terrific and delivered before the estimate! Thank you!
