I have tried all the flavors Special K has for their bars. Being a chocoholic, My go-to was their double chocolate. Unfortunately, it looks like they discontinued that flavor so I gave this one a try when I saw it on Amazon (have yet to see it in a store). I love these! Better than the double chocolate. Basically, you get a great candy bar that is not too sweet, loaded with chocolate flavor, and has the benefit of beneficial protein. I haven’t bought a chocolate candy bar since getting these. No need to.

A little bit higher in sugar and a little bit lower in protein then my pure protein bars. I find these to be a good source of energy just after a more extreme workout. Your body doesn’t actually burn fat while you’re working out throughout the day, it burns glucose, and if you deplete your glucose stores it will start burning proteins for energy instead. These bars are a good way to prevent that. Good taste and suitable for my needs.

Where to start? To be fair this really should be 3 or maybe 4 star review of the Brownie Batter, but since they killed the Double Chocolate in favor of the Brownie batter (i.e., and replacing its sku too), this is the best place to put it.
The Double Chocolate was the best utility, protein, and snack bar I had in a long time. Things were going great, I think I had at least 2-3 years eating it. But then all of sudden, maybe due the pandemic the Double Chocolate started to miss Subscribe and Save shipments. I think this lasted a few months. Then one day, they started up again and all was great! That is, until I tasted it and something seemed off. It was saltier with a slight bitter aftertaste, I thought maybe I had a bad batch. It wasn’t until my kids had one and they told me they like the brownie batter flavor. What?! Sure enough, I looked and it turned out they switched out the Double Chocolate for the Brownie Batter instead of my favorite flavor.
I searched frantically for Double Chocolate after that to see if anyone was carrying it. They were, but at very high prices, it soon became clear Double Chocolate was being discontinued by Kellogg’s.
So here I am, a sad man without Double Chocolate. The Brownie Batter, while not for me, isn’t terrible, but I cannot in good taste leave a good review for this travesty of a switch. I have no idea why Kellogg’s made such a choice, maybe I was in the minority of liking it, or some ingredient or cost factor during the Pandemic made them do it, but it was in my mind a terrible choice.
That said, you may like this flavor but it’s not for me. I’m off to find a new protein/snack bar! Maybe someday they’ll bring it back, but until then I’ll be eating something else.

I like the flavor and texture of these protein bars over everything else I’ve tried. I like them for a quick lunch on the go and they keep me satisfied till dinner.

I’ve tried all kind of protein/granola bars from many different brands but this is the one that rates as the best. The taste is so good that you don’t notice you’re eating a protein bar.
It taste good and is high in protein compared to many other brands of the same size.
