IMPORTANT DISTINCTION: MADE IN TAIWAN, NOT CHINA, and is distributed by Taiwan Importer Nuwonder. Taiwan has an excellent track record for making good products. A proprietary blend of excellent herbs often used in Chinese medicine are in this formula.
More than ever, people are focused on immune health. Because of my own autoimmune issues, I take extra precautions and was drawn to this herbal supplement formula to beef up my immunity. This brand is unknown to me, but I decided to give this brand, Nuwonder, a whirl.
Advertised as a natural fizzy drink mix, the box contains 10 individual packets to be dissolved in 3 to 5 oz of ice water before or between meals, 3 x day. The more water, the less intense flavor. At $20/box for basically 3 days of use seems pricey to me. It must be a shotgun approach to upping one’s immunity in just 3 days, but there’s no indication of how long the product should be taking on a daily basis going forward. That info should definitely be on the box for consumers.
The price isn’t the only downside. There is also a precaution on the box to avoid spicy and greasy food, as well as consult with a doctor before use. How long to abstain from those foods depends on how long one continues taking the supplement for healthy immunity. These were red flags for me, in addition to the fact that the powder isn’t fully soluble, even in 5 oz of water. Given the powder to water ratio, that doesn’t surprise me. It fizzes and then resembles beer with a foamy top. Insolubility is a sticking point for me with nearly all such health powder drinks. “Dissolve” is more like wishful thinking. The undissolved gritty powder coated the back of my throat and I wasn’t sure if I felt irritation or an allergic reaction, so I didn’t finish the drink. It took awhile for the grit to wear off and I couldn’t wash the sensation of it coating my throat by drinking plain water.
I wish I could say that the drink is a brilliant concoction that worked a miracle on my immune health, but I’m taking a more cautious approach. Herbal supplements can have all kinds of side effects and cause reactions, which is why they’re used as medicines. So, it really is a good idea to follow the box advice and consult a doctor first, especially if you have any conditions and/or take medications. On the upside, the herbal ingredients were impressive:
ASTRAGALUS ROOT: Used in Chinese medicine as immunity booster for stress, disease, nervous system
SAPOSHNIKOVIA ROOT: Used in Chinese medicine for respiratory and anti-inflammatory conditions
WHITE ATRACTYLODES: Used in alternative Chinese medicine for digestion and allergies, etc.
GINGER ROOT (personal fave of mine): A spice with anti-inflammatory properties that provides antioxidants, vitamins, minerals. Aids digestion and immune systems.
That was a rough overview of their benefits. All are great anti-inflammatories with amazing properties and I’m a huge fan of Chinese medicine and herbal supplements. A proprietary blend coming from Taiwan should be the real deal and there shouldn’t be worries about shortcuts or substitutions in the formula. But herbal supplements are also a double-edged sword with lack of consumer knowledge about sourcing, production, and concentration in a proprietary blend. As a side note, I dislike all sugar substitutes and can’t stand the taste. This one contains Stevia, which is too sweet with an aftertaste. The flavor is Passion Fruit with added cane sugar and sodium bicarbonate (presumably built in for indigestion).
On the upside, the product is made in Taiwan, so please don’t confuse this as a Chinese product. I believe this drink is probably very effective with a good, strong formula with real benefits. My overall feeling, and those of you like me with autoimmune issues, may take a more cautious approach. Because of a potential allergic reaction, I will test this again at a more diluted level. For the majority of you, however, this may be a great, though pricey, alternative to an immunity supplement in drink form. I wish there was more information on how long to continue taking the product.

I like that this immune boosting drink has different herbs than the typical immunity boosting supplements or drinks. I don’t think I’ve seen any with this particular blend so it will be interesting to see the benefits of these compared to the average ones I usually take in the winter. One thing you may want to be aware of is the suggested amount of water to be used. I filled my glass with 8 oz. of water as I normally would and put the drink mix in. It was good but a little on the weaker side. I then saw on the side of the box that they suggest using anywhere from 3-5 oz. of water depending on if you like a more intense flavor or a lighter flavor. I’m going to try it with 3 oz. of water next time as I do enjoy the flavor of it. I did detect the taste of sodium bicarbonate after drinking it, as a lingering aftertaste, so if you don’t like that taste then this may not be for you. I didn’t mind it, though would have preferred a lingering taste of something else! Overall a nice addition to supplements, it’s easy to take and enjoyable though the price is a little high at 10 packets for $20

I’m extremely sensitive to the taste of stevia so I could certainly detect it in this immune booster drink. Would not recommend if you do not like artificial sweetners. The bubbles in combo of the herbs are a nice touch but some of the other ingredients are a bit questionable.

This herbal supplement has a pretty good taste, but the water definitely needs to be ice cold or it doesn’t taste great. With cold water it is fairly drinkable, and the fizzing bubbles are fun as well. It is fairly sweet but not too cloying. The instructions say to drink 2 to 3 sachets per day, which seems like *a lot*, especially at this price point, but even at 1 per day I feel like I am getting the benefits. I felt it dissolved well and didn’t taste gritty at the bottom.
